Hello! My name is ALEXEY. I am 14 years old and I am studying in 9th grade. I was born in Singapore. I came here to the U.S.A. when I was a one year old.
I started playing drums when i was 6 years and 10 months old. It was a blessing that my parents were very supportive of my dream (of becoming a drummer). I had a drum teacher for a year and a half, who taught me a lot of John Bonham grooves. I remember that after a few months of learning drums, I was playing the Immigrant song by Led Zeppelin. Triplets on a single pedal!
I won the Next Great Drummer Beginner category when I was 7 years old, after only 6 months of playing drums. Then, Miss Patti Labelle invited me to play drums on the song, Lady Marmalade in her concert. That was my first experience on stage with a lot of people cheering for me. That was when I told my self that this is fun!
In my early age of drumming, I was able to play alongside Mr. Stevie Wonder at the Toys for Tots concert at the Nokia Theater and in The Long Beach Jazz festival.
My love for classic rock (My parents introduced it to me since the day I was born) strengthens me to play drums. I have learned and covered a lot of classic rock songs which is a big part of my drumming life.
Because of that, I was able to meet a lot of great drummers. I was able to meet and ride Mr. Tommy Lee’s (Mötley Crue) 360 roller coaster and watch the KISS concert behind the drum set of my Uncle (Great Friend) Eric Singer, the drummer of KISS.
In 2013, when I was 10 years old, I won and became the very first champion in the Under 18 category of the international drum contest, Hit Like A Girl.
In 2015, I was selected by GAP Clothing to be one of the girls for the Gap Kids x ED with Ms. Ellen Degeneres. From there, I played drums for Ellen, taught her a beat, and had an interview with her.
I’ve toured in Philippines two times, playing with musicians and bands such as Wolfgang, Sandwich, Imago, Mr. Jerome Abalos, Mr. Zach Lucero; and I even played with Mr. Arnel Pineda of Journey at a studio and at his concert.
I was also featured as a drummer in Walk The Moon’s music video, Work This Body.
Recently, I was selected to be in the Dream Big Princess commercial by Disney. Want to know what I did? You guessed it! I was a drummer alongside Princess Jasmine.
I performed alongside Epic Records' artist Saving Forever on the Today Show, Arthur Ashe Kid's Day at the U.S. Open, and has toured with them a couple times!
I am hoping to influence a lot of kids to play drums or whatever they dream of to become.
If you have a dream, just go for it!
My journey does not end here, because I am still and will always be living my dreams as drummer.
